IMDA Certification

IMDA Certification is a regulatory approval issued by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority to ensure telecommunications, radio, and IT equipment comply with local safety and technical standards.

Telecommunications devices, mobile phones, wireless equipment, IoT devices, and other radio frequency products require IMDA Certification before being imported, sold, or used in Singapore.

It ensures that devices comply with Singapore’s safety, radiofrequency, and interoperability standards, protecting both consumers and the national telecommunications network.

Both manufacturers and importers can apply for IMDA Certification. Foreign manufacturers usually need to appoint a local representative in Singapore to manage the approval process.

Required documents include test reports from accredited labs, product specifications, user manuals, circuit diagrams, and labeling samples meeting IMDA guidelines.

The certification process usually takes 4–6 weeks depending on the product type, testing needs, and completeness of submitted documents.

In most cases, IMDA accepts test reports from recognized international labs. However, some products may require additional local testing for compliance verification.

IMDA certificates are generally valid for 5 years, after which renewal is required if the product will continue to be marketed or imported in Singapore.

Selling non-certified equipment can result in fines, product seizure, and prohibition from the Singapore market until compliance is achieved.

While international certifications like FCC or CE are useful, IMDA requires compliance with its own technical standards for approval in Singapore.
